    Snapper is a rockfish similar to sea bream, as both belong to the Sparidae family. In Spain it is known by different names depending on the area. In addition to pargo, it can be found as Bocinegro, Mazote, Urta or Rubiel. Its body shape is oval, with a short snout and teeth with well-developed canines.

    The wild snapper usually lives along the coast, between 20 and 40 metres deep, although in winter it tends to move to deeper waters. It is a hermaphrodite fish, i.e. adult specimens are first females and become males with age. Its diet is based on shrimps, crabs and barnacles, which gives this fish a particular flavour with a certain seafood touch.
