The Argentinian red prawn, sometimes referred to as a “red king prawn” is found mainly off the Patagonian coast. This species is best suited to griddles and grills, as its meat is softer than that of other types of prawn.

It comes raw in 2 kg packs, with 20–30 pieces per kilo. Due to its short shelf life after cooking, we don’t send Argentinian red prawns pre-cooked.

Frozen product. Once thawed, do not refreeze.

The Argentinian red prawn (Pleoticus muelleri), also known as a red king prawn, is found mostly in southwestern Atlantic ocean waters, living close to the seabed. The largest concentration is off the Patagonian coast, meaning they’re caught in Argentine waters.

Known as a “langostino austral” in Spanish, the Argentinian red prawn is just one variety of several species of crustaceans that come under the generic name of “langostino”. The colour of its shell varies within the pinkish-brown range, with a series of transverse bands on the abdomen, which are lighter in males than in females. Generally reddish in colour, its shell is thin and its flavour mild, meaning it’s perfect for griddles and grills. Its meat is softer than that of other types of prawn.

It has a low fat and carbohydrate content, making it perfect for slimming diets. Rich in omega-3 acids, magnesium and iron, it helps prevent cardiovascular diseases and regulates both cholesterol levels and iron-deficiency anaemia.

Our Argentinian Red Prawn comes raw and frozen in 2 kg packs. Due to its short shelf life after cooking, we don’t send Argentinian red prawns pre-cooked. It should be noted that the transport used is designed for fresh products, so we can’t guarantee that the prawns will arrive at their destination frozen.

There are many varied ways to enjoy this crustacean. The most popular methods, however, are to cook it along with sauces, or to grill it, simply with olive oil and salt.
