The southern prawn (Pleoticus muelleri), also known as shrimp, inhabits mostly the southwestern waters of the Atlantic Ocean, moving along the waters close to the seabed. The highest concentration is found off the Patagonian coast, and they are therefore caught in Argentinean waters.
Prawns are the generic name given to several species of crustaceans. The colour of its shell varies within the pinkish and brownish range, with a series of transversal bands on the abdomen, lighter in the males than in the females. It is reddish in colour; its carapace is thin and its flavour is mild, making it the species best suited to griddles and grills. Its meat is softer than that of other types of prawns.
It is a food with a low fat and carbohydrate content, ideal for slimming diets. Rich in omega 3 acids, magnesium and iron, which help prevent cardiovascular diseases and regulate cholesterol levels and iron deficiency anaemia.
